The Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP) is dedicated to creating and disseminating high quality and competitive knowledge in the broad field of public health.
ISPUP’s mission is to contribute to the development, dissemination and application of new knowledge in the public health domain, stimulating research and training of excellence, in order to improve and protect human population health.
Its mission is accomplished through hosting post-graduate programs, producing scientifically sound and socially relevant research, and establishing innovative partnerships and services (such as the first occupational health clinic at the University of Porto) in response to local, national and international needs.
ISPUP promotes strong interaction among highly experienced researchers from complementary fields, such as Clinical Medicine, Dentistry, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental Science, Nutrition Science, Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences and Preventive Medicine. We currently host 96 Research Fellows and Master’s Students, 77 PhD Students and 45 Senior Researchers.
We conduct 19 national and 4 international projects under competitive funding.
During the last five years, we authored an average of 120 biomedical scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals per year, placing ISPUP among the most productive and competitive Portuguese institutions in health research.
