Billy Doyle, New Zealand

Billy Doyle has over thirty years’ experience as a volunteer lifeguard in New Zealand at Piha beach where he is a qualified advanced lifeguard. He has undertaken a variety of roles within surflifesaving including instructing, examining and governance. He is currently a medic specialising in working in hostile and remote environments for International SOS Ltd. He has previously worked as a clinical tutor in resuscitation and paramedicine in the tertiary education sector and continues to train individuals and teams within aquatic safety, healthcare, Police and the Military to better manage emergency situations and crisis. His postgraduate research focused on the human factors involved in medical crisis and error, in particular lifeguard error and continues to research and write in this field.
