Jonathon is an advanced qualified lifeguard (ret.) and director of the Simulation Centre for Patient Safety at the University of Auckland. His clinical background is as a resuscitation officer in a quaternary hospital/trauma centre, and he has also worked in various fields of pre-hospital emergency care, including community first response, ambulance, and event medical services. His research interests include human factors and crisis management, simulation in healthcare, resuscitation, airway management, drowning detection, and aquatic emergency care.
