Shayne Baker is an experienced lifesaver and water safety advocate/educator that has been involved in drowning prevention strategies at a local, national, and international level. During his career he has been a learner, a teacher, a national president, an active volunteer beach lifeguard, and an examiner of others wanting to become lifesavers throughout Australasia. Shayne has contributed to the development of drowning prevention knowledge and is an active presenter and delegate at local, national and international conferences on educational initiatives, strategies and programs. One of the consistent roles he has undertaken for many years includes the Chair of the Review Committee of the RLSSA Swimming and Water Safety manual. Based in one of Australia’s largest inland city’s he is currently involved in leading a team of dedicated aquatic professionals to implement an annual water safety and lifesaving programme for young adolescents to develop drowning prevention capabilities in a range of aquatic environs (specially inland waterways). Complementing these initiatives he is the National Education & Training Advisor for the Royal Life Saving Society Australia, a member of the International Life Saving Rescue Commission, the Lifesaving Foundation and a director of the Royal Life Saving Society Commonwealth.
