Dr. Seth Collings Hawkins is one of only a few American physicians holding dual board certification in both emergency medicine and EMS, and has worked for over twenty years in wilderness medicine and out-of-hospital emergency medical care. He has been a competitive swimmer since the age of seven and currently swims for the Hickory Seahorses Masters Team in North Carolina. He is the medical director of Landmark Learning, Starfish Aquatics Institute, Burke County EMS, and the NC State Parks System. He is a certified wilderness lifeguard (Wilderness StarGuard®) instructor, and the author of multiple emergency and wilderness medicine textbook chapters and publications on drowning. He is also the first physician ever designated a Master Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. Dr. Hawkins currently serves as an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Wake Forest University in the United States.
