my Peden has extensive experience in the field of drowning prevention research, policy and practice. She is currently employed as the National Manager – Research and Policy with Royal Life Saving Society – Australia. She has a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Social Policy and Government and International Relations) and a Masters of Public Policy both from Sydney University.
She is currently a PhD candidate at James Cook University conducting research into the epidemiology, risk factors and strategies for prevention for river drowning deaths in Australia.
She has authored 2 peer reviewed articles to date as well as 28 professional reports, and has been a lead author and presenter on 23 conference papers, both domestically and internationally, as well as co-author on a further 17 conference papers.
She has been involved in the development of the suite of Australian Standards on Personal Flotation Devices as a committee member of CS-060 and the review of Standards Associated with the Safety of Private Swimming Pools (CS-034). Amy has also been a key contributor to the Australian Water Safety Strategies 2008-2011 and 2012-15 (principal contributor). She regularly appears on television and radio and is quoted in print media discussing drowning statistics and drowning prevention strategies.
