Brendan Donohoe BSc, MSc, is a computer analyst employed by Local Authorities, where he is working in the area of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
He has over 40 years experience in the areas of lifesaving, altruistic rescuers and professional and volunteer open water lifeguarding. Over 30 of these years have focused on training other, particularly children and young adults in these skills.

This has resulted in Brendan’s research interest centring on the influences of relationships, family, friend and none, on the actions of rescuers and drowning casualties and the effects and consequences of their actions. He has presented at a number of World Drowning Prevention Conferences on this work.

He is chairman of the Lifesaving Foundation, a former RLSS Ireland President and Technical Officer and RLSS Ireland Region representative on RLSS (UK) national branch executive. For his service he has been honoured with receipt of both Royal Life Saving Society (UK) Honorary Life Member and Royal Life Saving Commonwealth.
